WHO WILL PRAY FOR AMERICA?

EZEKIEL 22:29-31: “The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger. So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord GOD.” NKJV

OBSERVATION: Our Nation is in serious trouble. We are at the precipe of judgment. Immorality, violence, hatred, division, and uncertainty fill the hearts and lives of its citizens. Churches are silent to speak against the true social and moral issues that we face afraid they will offend and lose congregants. All the while the question remains unanswered…

WHO WILL PRAY FOR AMERICA?

God has always looked for an intercessor who would capture His heart and pray for His people. Judgment is God’s strange act. Grace and mercy are what He desires to pour out upon His people. Yet, this cannot happen when there is no repentance. This cannot happen without an intercessor. This cannot happen until hearts are broken and contrite before a Holy God. And so, while our nation hangs in the balance…

WHO WILL PRAY FOR AMERICA?

This is not a call to pray for God to bless our nation. He has already done that. This is not a call to pray that our candidate wins. God will give us the candidate according to our own heart. This is a call to rend our hearts, confess our sins, and humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. This is a call to realize that our Christian life, the life of the church, and our mission on this earth, can no longer be business as usual.

THIS IS A CALL TO TRULY PRAY FOR AMERICA!

I need to pray first and foremost for my own life to be changed. I need to let go of every weight and every sin that so easily holds me back. I need to turn from any human wisdom that has taken root in my heart and embrace with a sense of childlike faith the wisdom that is from above! I need to stand in the gap for America by first standing in the gap for myself!

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:3-10)

I am not saying that the future of this country is in my hands or yours. Yet, there is one thing I can do. I can determine to be ONE who answers God’s call to stand in the gap. I don’t want to stand by and watch everything crumble around me and hear the Lord say…

“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.“

Is it too late for America? Is it too late for our world? Is the rapture and the Second Coming of Christ right upon us? No one can speak with full authority to answer these questions. There is only one thing I know.

It is not too late for me to repent.

It is not too late for me to answer God’s call.

It is not too late to be ONE who will stand in the gap.

It is not too late to pray for another Great Awakening in America?

So, this is what I will do. I will break up the fallow ground of my heart. I will allow the Holy Spirit to search me, know me, and see if there is any wickedness within me. I will quickly turn from my sin and run to the cross for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus Christ. I will boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I will speak up for the sanctity of human life, the unborn, the oppressed, and the lost. I will not be dismayed or give up.

I will stand in the gap and – PRAY FOR AMERICA!

“I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have the United States in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristics of the Devine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy Nation.  Amen” (George Washington)
