NO KINGS!

Proverbs 28:4-6: “Those who reject the law praise the wicked,  but those who keep the law pit themselves against them. The evil do not understand justice, but those who seek the  Lord understand everything. Better the poor person who lives with integrity than the rich one who distorts right and wrong.” CSB

OBSERVATION: NO KINGS! This was the cry of thousands in over 2000 protests across the country on June 14th. Simultaneously, a military parade marched through Washington, DC to celebrate the United States Army’s 250th Anniversary. The irony of both events is that this is the same Army that freed us from the tyrannical rule of a real King that is being protested as the display of power by a would-be king.

Is anyone else scratching their head?

A true Monarchy is much different than a Democracy. A King does not need to seek the support of a nation, win an election, and pass bills through two houses of legislation while battling the courts to do so. When President Trump was asked if he was a King, he replied,

“I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get stuff approved.”

So what is really going on here? Trump won the election in a landslide with a platform to solve our immigration policy, rid our country of criminal illegal aliens, improve our economy, strengthen our military, and promote peace through strength rather than endless wars. This is what the majority of Americans voted for, and over 70% of the polls support.

So what is really going on here?

It is not a battle of ideas. A healthy debate of opposing ideas to achieve the same result is both needed and a sign of health in an organization or nation. Yet, when there are no ideas, and the battle becomes personal and violent, we need to ask ourselves what is behind the anger and hostility. What are those protesting and shouting “NO KINGS” really trying to say?

To be honest, I don’t think many of them really understand what they are fighting for. It is not so much a cause for something as it is against something. If you remove Donald Trump from the equation and pull back the curtain, you see that the battle is a spiritual one. Is it not a battle of sincere ideas? It is a battle of light against darkness, darkness against light. It is the age-old battle of sin and righteousness. Proverbs reminds us,

“Those who reject the law praise the wicked,  but those who keep the law pit themselves against them. The evil do not understand justice, but those who seek the  Lord understand everything. Better the poor person who lives with integrity than the rich one who distorts right and wrong.”

Those who are opposing law and order are funding the riots and lawlessness we see in the streets. While mainstream media tells us that the protests are peaceful, we see the images of cars burning in the streets and people throwing bricks and rocks at law enforcement. While “NO KINGS” protesters denounce our current administration, there are no ideas offered on how to make our nation safer and more prosperous for our citizens. Support is offered for the criminals, and the victims of crime are ignored. No wonder Solomon writes,

“The evil do not understand justice…”

As a believer in Jesus Christ, as one who looks to the Bible as the Word of God and the standard of righteousness for all matters of faith and practice, how do I respond to this? It would be easy to get angry and bitter and write these groups off. Yet, I must never forget – Jesus died for everyone and He is not willing that any should perish but that all should be saved! The reality of sin is that it blinds the eyes of those held captive by it. Only when one meets Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord are their eyes opened to the truth!

2 Corinthians 4:3-4: “But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case, the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. CSB

2 Corinthians 3:16-18: “But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at, the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.” CSB

NO KINGS!

I agree! I want no other King than Jesus Christ, my Lord! I want the King of Righteousness! I want the King of Freedom! I want the King of Salvation! I want the King of Life! I want the King of Love! I want the King of Kings!

Lord, open our eyes to see behind the curtain of sin and the battle that wages against mankind for the souls of men. Open our eyes to see Jesus! Let us turn to the Lord so that the veil of confusion will be removed and we can be transformed into the image of Jesus Christ. And, as we take a stand against unrighteousness in our culture, may it be with an outstretched hand and the Cross of Jesus Christ!

In Jesus’ Name!
