IS THERE REALLY ONLY ONE GOD?

ISAIAH 44:6-8: “This is what the Lord, the King of Israel and its Redeemer, the Lord of Armies, says: I am the first and I am the last. There is no God but me. Who, like me, can announce the future? Let him say so and make a case before me, since I have established an ancient people. Let these gods declare the coming things, and what will take place. Do not be startled or afraid. Have I not told you and declared it long ago? You are my witnesses! Is there any God but me? There is no other Rock; I do not know any.” CSB
OBSERVATION: How many gods are there? Is the God of the Bible simply the god of those who follow its teachings? Are there different gods and different paths that lead to eternal life? Is it enough that someone believes in a supreme being or a beginning? Why do Christians insist that there is only ONE GOD?
The concept of Monotheism, the worship of one God, is a distinguishing feature of the Judeo-Christian faith. This is not a tenet of faith developed by man. Rather, it was the honest deduction by those who read the Scriptures and listen honestly to what God declared Himself to be.
Throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, God proclaims the same truth.
“I am the first and I am the last. There is no God but me.” Isaiah 44:6
“Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.“ Revelation 22:12-13
I read a recent article about an atheist who conducted an interview with ChatGPT AI to inquire, from logic, if there was a God, a single starting point for all of Creation. Here is an excerpt from this interesting encounter.
Alex: So, if that is the most natural and obvious name to give to this being, ChatGPT, are you telling me that it’s a fact that God exists?
CHATGPT:Based on the logical reasoning and factual premises we’ve discussed, the conclusion we’ve reached is that a necessary being, which people commonly refer to as God, exists. So yes, from the perspective of the facts and logical implications we’ve outlined, it would follow that it’s factually supported that such a being referred to as God exists.
Alex:Did I tell you what I was doing, or tell you that I was trying to talk about God or philosophy or anything like that?
CHATGPT:No, you didn’t give me any prior prompting or let me know what you were planning.
Alex:And I only asked you about factual matters. No popular philosophical ideas or things which people tend to believe, but just things which are facts.
CHATGPT:Exactly. We focused strictly on logical implications and factual reasoning from the premises we agreed upon without relying on popular philosophical opinions or beliefs.
Alex:And that factual trail led us to the conclusion that God exists, as a matter of fact.
CHATGPT:Yes.
[ChatGPT says it’s a fact that God exists (VOICES, By Robin Schumacher, Exclusive Columnist, Monday, August 11, 2025) https://www.christianpost.com/voices/chatgpt-says-its-a-fact-that-god-exists.html?utm_source=Daily&utm_campaign=Daily&utm_medium=newsletter]
If ChatGPT, AI, concludes that God exists, then will the real God please stand up? When man is left to create his own concept of who God is, he usually makes a god to fit his personal philosophy and lifestyle. However, this man-made creation of god is futile. It is like an automobile claiming it is the creator rather than something that has been created by someone greater. Isaiah writes about man’s folly as he tries to create his own concept of God and forms it from a piece of wood.
“He burns half of it in a fire, and he roasts meat on that half. He eats the roast and is satisfied. He warms himself and says, “Ah! I am warm, I see the blaze.” He makes a god or his idol with the rest of it. He bows down to it and worships; he prays to it, “Save me, for you are my god.” Such people do not comprehend and cannot understand, for he has shut their eyes so they cannot see, and their minds so they cannot understand.” Isaiah 44:16-18 CSB
Some may object, “I don’t worship a wooden idol!” Yet, whatever form we give to God that is not from the self-revelation of Himself is as futile as worshipping a hunk of wood. It is the creation forming a god to worship from the creation. When man worships man, government, science, philosophy, and even religion, he is worshipping a hunk of wood. Why is this so important?
A concept, a hunk of wood…
Cannot save us from our sins.
Cannot deliver us from our fears.
Cannot give us eternal life.
Cannot answer the question – “Why am I here?”
Cannot give us life and peace.
It is like trying to open a door with the wrong kind of key. It does not matter how intelligent we are, how earnest our efforts, or how sincere our intentions. If we have the wrong key, we will never open the door. If we have the wrong god, we will never enter into life and life everlasting.
Jesus made it very clear. There is only one way to God, the Creator of the Universe. It is through Jesus Christ alone. He is the living revelation of the nature and essence of the one true God. There is no other way, no other truth, and no other life apart from knowing the one true God through Jesus Christ the Lord!
“Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me…If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:1,6-7 CSB
The God of the Bible is the One True God. The Only God! There is no other god except the false creation of man in his attempt to escape the truth of the one true God. There is salvation in no other than the Creator of all things, the God of the Bible, the first and the last, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end! The only response of an honest heart to this truth is to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God!
“But he gives greater grace. Therefore, he says: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.“ James 4:6-10 CSB
“But to all who did receive him (Jesus Christ), he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13 CSB
Jesus, God the living Word (John 1:1), God who came to us in the form of human flesh (John 1:14), God who revealed His eternal nature through His life, death, and resurrection (John 1:18), is reaching out to every man and woman with the invitation to become His child and to know…
The One, The Only, The True God!
“But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:8-10 CSB
“Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent, Jesus Christ.” John 17:1-3 CSB
In Jesus’ Name!
