IS EVOLUTION A FACT?

GENESIS 1:27: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
OBSERVATION: Is Evolution a “fact”? In any public school in our country you will find it being taught as such. Yet, there are many problems with the “theory” of evolution. There are problems scientifically, and there are problems theologically. Since I am not a scientist I will address the most obvious – the theological problem with evolution.
Throughout the creation account one thing is clear, God created everything with forethought and design. Now, if one does not believe in God the points I am going to make are not relevant to them. However, for those who look at the grandeur and the order of creation and see the handiwork of a Divine Creator, these points are paramount. Whatever timetable one puts over the creation narrative the Biblical record is clear – God created everything “after it’s own kind”. This theologically refutes the “theory” of evolution and the claim that man is simply the product of a gradual process of change from one species to another.
The creation of man stands unique and apart from all of creation. In the rest of creation it is almost as if the Lord is having fun, like a master painter does when he creates a thing of beauty with the stroke of his brush. However, when it comes to the creation of man there is a great pause. It is not that the Lord is not enjoying His creation of man, it is that there is a sense of holy pause in the careful attention He gives it. It is only in the creation of man that the Lord says – “…Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth”
Only man (male and female) are created in the “image of God”. Only man bears this unique status and position of dominion and care for the rest of God’s creation. The Lord did not watch the evolutionary process as one watches a batch of cookies baking in the oven. He did not one day say – “That’s it! Let’s stop there! Let’s put our stamp on that phase of the process!” No, mankind was His deliberate and loving creation. Mankind is uniquely created in the image of God and therefore life is both sacred and filled with meaning and purpose.
This truth speaks to so many of the social ills and issues of our day. As Christians we must uphold the sanctity of all human life. As Christians we must be good stewards of all the creation of God. As Christians we must love and care for one another, for in doing so we are manifesting the very heart and nature of God. When we lower man to just another “animal” we impair and diminish the grandeur of God’s most deliberate, careful, and thoughtful creation.
Lord, thank You for Your deliberate and thoughtful creation of my life! Thank You for loving me so much that You sent Your only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sin and rescue me from my rebellion against You. Thank You that through faith in Christ I am being restored to my original purpose and destiny. In Jesus Name!
