FOLLOW THE SCIENCE?

EPHESIANS 2:1-3: “Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.” NLT

OBSERVATION: What is influencing the decisions in my life? A growing mantra that is heard today is – “Follow the science!” Our culture worships at the footstool of science. I think that most people do not even know what science is!

Science:The pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence. (The Science Council).

If we followed this strict rule, following only what is based on tested and undisputed evidence, we could follow science. Science, in its pure form, is like mathematics. One plus one will always equal two. True science is discovering the wonder of God’s creation and its glory.

Yet, this is not what science is in our present day. Science is not the establishment of tested and undisputed evidence. Science today is the calculated guess of men and women who are in reality motivated by an ideology and are bending the rules of science to justify and advance their position. We have all lived through the incorrect policies of the COVID-19 pandemic as we were told to …

“Follow the science.”

What is the motivation behind this deception? Why are people so eager to bow their knees at the altar of pseudo-science? Paul reminds us in these opening verses in Ephesians chapter 2.

“You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.”

The worship of science in our culture is the result of a culture that has refused to obey God. I contend that true science is always in complete agreement with the Scriptures and in harmony with the natural world that God created. Science is the discovery of life as God created it. Yet, it has become a religion within itself that takes more faith to believe than it takes to have faith in God.

Paul warns young Timothy,

“Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge. Some people have wandered from the faith by following such foolishness. May God’s grace be with you all.” (I Timothy 6:20-21, NLT).

A Biblical worldview places God in the center of our existence. Pseudo-science places man in the center of our existence. Pseudo-science makes no moral claim on the souls of mankind. Therein is its pull and attraction. The manipulation of the scientific principle has been used to create systems that support our immoral lifestyles without any true scientific or logical basis. The current debate surrounding gender identity is a prime example of this deception.

While those who uphold the sanctity of the Scriptures and the validity of the unaltered scientific method are marginalized in our culture, we are the only ones who are willing to pull back the curtain. As in the Wizard of Oz, when the curtain is pulled back, there is no great and powerful Oz – just an old man, the deceiver of our souls, who is leading men and women astray by his lies and deception.

I am not afraid of science because I believe it is the true discovery of the wonder of our Creator. Yet, I refuse to blindly “Follow the science.” I choose to follow God’s Word, walk after the Holy Spirit, and stand firm in my faith. I have seen behind the curtain and I know who is influencing this present age. Thank God for His unsearchable grace and mercy which is extended to everyone who will place their faith and trust in Him!

“But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-7)

While the world rushes to “follow the science”, Lord, help me to follow the One who died and rose again so that I can walk in Your incredible wealth of grace and kindness!
