A LESSON LEARNED FROM A FAMILY OF SPARROWS…

LUKE 12:6-7: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
OBSERVATION: We have a small hedge that grows on the side of our driveway. It is there to hide the power box in the front of our lot. Over the years it has grown and become a home to a family of sparrows. Whenever I pull in or out of the driveway they joyfully pop up from within their nestled home in this hedge and begin to bounce around on the top of it. It is as if they are celebrating and having fun each time I see them. They do not seem to have a care in the world. Sunshine, rain, and even the recent snow and ice we have had does not seem to phase them. They shoot off to find their daily food and then fly back to their nest. The gardeners trim the hedge, but it never seems to affect the sparrows. They never seem to be in peril or worried about what lies ahead.
When I read these verses I thought about these little sparrows. If God cares so much for them that He provides a place of shelter and daily food, why do I worry about my day. Jesus said – “Fear not, you are of more value than many sparrows.” I think the Lord takes as much joy in watching these little guys as I do. He provides for them. Yet, He takes much more joy in watching and providing for me. Jesus came to give His life for me, not the little sparrows. He has given all so that I could receive all. He is my righteousness, my peace, and my provision. He knows what lies ahead of me today, tomorrow, and throughout my life. My life is in His hands. So, with love like that – what cause do I have to worry?
Lord, help me to trust You like the little sparrows. Help me to place my life and this day in Your hands. Help me to walk in the full assurance of faith and hope. You have promised to care for Me in every area of my life. May I seek first Your Kingdom and Your Righteousness and rest in the promise that, like You do for the sparrows – all things will be added unto me. In Jesus Name!
